Objective
Bel Air Finishing was tasked with developing an automated edge-honing solution for stainless steel and Inconel bone drills to remove grinding burrs and improve the performance of stainless steel bone screws. This process aims to increase production efficiency by reducing the need for manual edge conditioning, a current bottleneck in the customer’s production line.

Solution
To efficiently deburr and hone the edges of stainless steel and Inconel bone drills, Bel Air Finishing developed a high-speed edge-conditioning solution using reverse drag finishing technology. This process removes grinding burrs, sharpens edges, and ensures a smooth, consistent finish suitable for medical applications. By automating with the AutoHone™, the process minimizes manual intervention, significantly improving throughput and producing repeatable, high-quality results across all bone drill components.
