Objective
A medical device manufacturer in the Boston, MA region sought to develop a finishing process capable of producing a high-quality mirror finish on a cobalt chrome partial implant component. The objective was to achieve a consistent surface finish while maintaining the part’s geometry and supporting production efficiency.
| Part Description | Partial Implant |
| Industry | Medical/Pharmaceutical |
| Fabrication Method | CNC Machined |
| Material | Cobalt Chrome |
| Process Type | Surface Preparation, Polish, Superpolish/Ultrapolish |
| Equipment Type | Centrifugal Barrel Finisher / Harperizer, Centrifugal Disc Finisher |
Solution
Bel Air developed a polishing process for a cobalt chrome partial implant component using centrifugal barrel finishing / harperizing technologies. The process was designed to produce a high-quality mirror finish while maintaining part geometry and surface integrity.
The component was processed with specialized media and compounds selected to refine the surface, reduce visible irregularities, and create a more uniform polished appearance. This controlled finishing approach helped simplify the polishing operation and reduce the amount of manual polishing required while supporting a more consistent result from part to part.
If you are unsure what equipment and media you require to achieve your desired surface finish, send us your part, and we will evaluate it and provide you with a detailed metrology report.
