Cobalt Chrome Hip Ball

Bel Air Finishing was tasked with developing a process to achieve a precise, mirror-like 0.14 µm finish on the bearing surface of CNC-machined cobalt chrome hip replacement components. The goal is to enhance product quality by eliminating human inconsistencies and implementing a standardized finishing process.

To achieve the required mirror finish and consistency for cobalt chrome hip balls, Bel Air Finishing recommended a combination of High-Energy Centrifugal Disc Finishers and Centrifugal Barrel Finishers for precise deburring and polishing. This automated process provided efficient surface treatment, delivering the desired smoothness and gloss across all components. Rigorous validation procedures were implemented to ensure consistent results that meet stringent medical industry standards, reducing human variability and improving overall quality.
