Objective

Develop an automated, non-manual method to deburr the inner diameter (ID), threads, and intricate features of newly designed CNC- and Swiss-screw–machined aluminum clamping pulleys for a medical device application—eliminating the need for any hand finishing process.

Part DescriptionClamping Pulley
IndustryMedical/Pharmaceutical, Machine Shop Applications
Fabrication MethodCNC Machined, Swiss Screw Machined
Material6061-T6 Aluminum
Process TypeDeburring, Slurry Wet Blasting
Equipment TypeMagnetic Pin Finisher, Centrifugal Barrel Finisher/Harperizer, Centrifugal Disc Finisher

Solution

Bel Air engineered a high-precision internal deburring process using its Magnetic Pin Finisher, ideal for reaching delicate bores and threads without damaging critical features. While other methods—including centrifugal barrel, disc finishing, and wet blasting—were evaluated, the Magnetic Pin Finisher was recommended for its gentle action and reliable results on CNC- and Swiss-screw–machined 6061-T6 aluminum parts. After successful sample trials, Bel Air supported the customer by running a 600-piece validation batch while they awaited capital equipment approval. The automated process delivers short cycle times, repeatable performance, and burr-free internal finishes for medical-grade components.
