Solution

Bel Air developed an automated mass finishing process to polish and condition steel alloy pistol barrels that previously required extensive manual finishing. The objective was to reduce machining marks, improve surface uniformity, and prepare the barrels for downstream coating without affecting critical dimensions or functional features.

Using controlled finishing methods, the process uniformly refined external surfaces across the length of the barrel, including complex profiles and machined features. This approach reduced surface roughness and variability while maintaining dimensional integrity.

The optimized workflow significantly reduced manual labor and rework while increasing throughput, making it well suited for firearms manufacturing environments where surface consistency, coating preparation, and production efficiency are critical.
