Objective

Bel Air Finishing was tasked with developing an automated deburring process for CNC-machined aluminum knife handles. The goal was to consistently break sharp edges and remove burrs from two part variations, replacing manual methods with a high-efficiency mass finishing solution.

Part DescriptionGrip Screws for Firearms
IndustryFirearms/Weaponry
Fabrication MethodSwiss Screw Machined
MaterialCarbon Steel
Process TypePolishing, Superpolish/Ultrapolish
Equipment TypeCentrifugal Disc Finisher, Centrifugal Barrel Finisher/Harperizer

Solution

Bel Air evaluated both Centrifugal Disc and Centrifugal Barrel Finisher/Harperizer systems to achieve a high-quality, repeatable polish on carbon steel grip screws. Using a multi-stage process with progressively finer media and polishing compounds, Bel Air delivered a mirror-like finish while preserving the tight tolerances of Swiss screw-machined parts. For scalability, the solution can be adapted to larger components by shifting to barrel-based equipment like the FMCB Series, offering the same high-energy action with increased part capacity. The automated process eliminates manual polishing, reduces labor, and ensures consistent cosmetic results across high production volumes.

If you are unsure what equipment and media you require to achieve your desired surface finish, then send us your part, and we will evaluate it and provide you with a metrology report.
