Eliminate manual deburring on CNC-machined brass and aluminum microwave housings by developing an automated process capable of removing burrs from deep pockets, cross-holes, and small internal features.

Solution

Bel Air developed an automated deburring process for CNC-machined brass and aluminum microwave housings with small cross-holes, deep pockets, and internal features that were difficult to finish manually.

Several finishing methods were evaluated to determine the most effective way to remove burrs from internal edges and hard-to-reach areas while maintaining surface quality and part geometry. Based on those trials, centrifugal barrel finishing was identified as a strong solution due to its high-energy action and ability to access complex internal features.

Bel Air provided the customer with multiple validated process options so they could select the approach best suited to their production needs. The final result was a repeatable, scalable deburring workflow that significantly reduced hand labor and improved part-to-part consistency.
