Objective
A dental customer needed to improve the surface quality of 3D printed cobalt chrome frameworks used in partial dentures. The goal was to smooth and refine the surface using an automated process that reduced roughness without compromising fit. Achieving a high polish was optional, but surface uniformity and reduced labor were key priorities.

Solution
Bel Air implemented a wet slurry blasting process using the Industrial 3D Print Smoother to reduce surface roughness on binder jet and DMLS/SLM printed CoCr dental frameworks. The process gently removed build texture and powder residue while preserving the integrity of contact surfaces and fit-critical geometry. While a mirror finish was not required, the resulting semi-polished appearance improved consistency and eliminated the need for manual grinding or touch-ups.
