Solution
Bel Air evaluated multiple finishing technologies for DMLS-produced cobalt chrome crowns and bridges, including centrifugal disc finishing, centrifugal barrel finishing, and magnetic pin finishing. The goal was to remove residual build layer texture and improve surface consistency while maintaining part detail and overall geometry.
The printed dental parts required a high-gloss cosmetic finish, but manual polishing created extra labor and inconsistent results. Bel Air developed and demonstrated multiple finishing options, allowing the customer to compare results and select the best fit for their production goals, workflow, and budget.
The final process produced a high-gloss, mirror-like finish while improving consistency across dental restorations. The reduced need for manual polishing also supports the quality requirements associated with FDA-cleared dental products.
