Objective

A dental implant manufacturer in São Paulo, Brazil, region needed a repeatable edge preparation and polishing process for ground steel alloy bone taps to address a media supply chain issue.

Process TechnologyEdge Preparation, Coating Polishing
Equipment TypeDrag-Spindle Finisher

Solution

Bel Air developed an automated edge preparation and polishing process for ground steel alloy bone taps using a Vertical Drag Finisher. The objective was to create a repeatable process that produced consistent cutting edges while resolving a media supply chain challenge.

The process gently honed the cutting edges to create a controlled edge radius before polishing the flutes and cutting surfaces. Different media and process parameters were evaluated to achieve consistent edge preparation while maintaining the tool geometry.

The resulting process produced uniformly honed and polished bone taps with consistent cutting edge quality, helping prepare the tools for coating while supporting the manufacturer’s growing mass finishing operation.

If you are unsure what equipment and media are needed to achieve your desired surface finish, send us your part and Bel Air will evaluate it and provide a detailed metrology report.
