Solution

Bel Air developed an edge honing process for carbide end mills using a drag finishing system. The objective was to create a consistent cutting-edge radius while maintaining the tool geometry.

The carbide end mills required controlled edge preparation to strengthen the cutting edge and improve consistency before production use. The goal was to increase cutting tool life without changing the tool’s overall geometry.

Using a drag finishing system with specialized finishing media, the end mills were processed to create a more uniform cutting-edge radius across each tool. The resulting process provided consistent edge preparation that helped support longer tool life and repeatable machining performance.

If you are unsure what equipment and media are needed to achieve your desired surface finish, send us your part and Bel Air will evaluate it and provide a detailed metrology report.
