Objective
The customer wanted to automate the surface preparation of raw zinc castings used for 20-sided (D20) gaming dice and other objects. Their current process involved copper sulfate application followed by machine polishing to achieve a patina finish. They sought a more efficient, automated tumbling solution to streamline finishing while maintaining visual quality.

Solution
Bel Air developed a multi-stage tumbling process using a low-energy vibratory finisher and specialized media to clean, smooth, and prep the surface of the zinc dice without distorting engraved details. This process enhanced consistency across batches and created an ideal surface for subsequent patina or color treatments. It eliminated the need for manual polishing, reducing labor and improving throughput for high-mix, small-part production.
