Objective

The customer wanted to eliminate time-consuming hand polishing and buffing operations for their CNC- and Swiss screw-machined shaving razor kits. The goal was to increase throughput and reduce manual labor by adopting an automated polishing process that could consistently deliver a bright, high-luster finish across multiple part geometries.

Solution

Bel Air designed a multi-path polishing evaluation to determine the most effective finishing approach for each part style. All components were first processed in a centrifugal disc finisher to establish a consistent pre-polish baseline.

From there, Bel Air tested three secondary finishing options:

  • Centrifugal barrel finishing to achieve a mirror-like polish across smoother geometries
  • Drag finishing to polish complex or difficult-to-fixture components
  • Two-step dry drag finishing as a clean, water-free alternative for select parts

This flexible approach helped the customer evaluate finish quality, cycle time, and equipment options—allowing them to choose the best path forward based on their part requirements.
