Before

Diesel injector components before cleaning showing oxidation, surface contamination, and residue prior to dry finishing

After

Diesel injector components after dry finishing with ECO-FLEX™ media showing clean, uniform surfaces and restored appearance

Objective

A turbocharger remanufacturing company in the Chicago, IL region partnered with Bel Air Finishing to clean and restore diesel injector components by removing surface contamination, oxidation, and residue while maintaining critical dimensions and part integrity.

Solution

Bel Air developed a dry finishing process using ECO-FLEX™ media in a vibratory finisher to clean and recondition diesel injector components.

The injectors, consisting of multiple precision-machined steel alloy parts, exhibited surface contamination, oxidation, and handling residue from prior use. A controlled dry finishing process was applied to remove these surface conditions without affecting part geometry or functional tolerances.

ECO-FLEX™ media enabled effective cleaning and surface refinement without the use of water or liquid compounds, simplifying the process while maintaining consistency across all components.

The result is a repeatable, production-ready refurbishment process suitable for automotive service parts.

Process Results:

  • Removes oxidation, residue, and surface contamination
  • Restores a clean, uniform surface finish across all components
  • Maintains critical dimensions and thread integrity
  • Eliminates the need for wastewater handling (dry process)
  • Provides consistent, repeatable results for batch processing

If you are unsure what equipment and media you require to achieve your desired surface finish, then send us your part, and we will evaluate it and provide you with a metrology report.
