Objective

Bel Air Finishing was tasked with developing a surface finishing solution for CNC-machined aerospace blades made from Inconel 713C and MAR-M-421. The goal was to clean and polish the part with minimal manual labor and significantly reduce process time while achieving a high-quality surface finish.

Solution

Bel Air used a Centrifugal Disc Finisher to develop a repeatable polishing process for aerospace blades made from heat-resistant superalloys. The system removed oxidation, discoloration, and light machining marks while preserving edge geometry and part tolerances.

Through careful adjustments to media type and cycle time, the process reduced surface roughness from Sa 9.4 µin to 5.2 µin, producing a smooth, uniform finish ready for inspection, coating, or assembly. The setup also reduced manual labor and improved consistency, making it well-suited for production use.
