Objective
Bel Air Finishing was asked to develop a solution to reduce or eliminate manual deburring of aerospace swirler components made from stainless steel and Inconel alloys. These small, precision-engineered parts require edge refinement and surface cleanup after CNC machining, broaching, and grinding operations.
| Industry | Aerospace/Defense |
| Part Description | Swirler |
| Fabrication Method | Broached, CNC Machined, Ground |
| Material | Stainless Steel/Inconel, Steel Alloy |
| Process Technology | Deburring, Dry Blasting, Wet Grinding |
| Equipment Type | Centrifugal Barrel Finisher/Harperizer, Centrifugal Disc Finisher, Drag-Spindle Finisher |
Solution
Bel Air implemented a multi-stage approach combining high-energy finishing and advanced media selection to address both burr removal and surface consistency. The process used a combination of centrifugal disc finishing and drag-spindle technology to target the intricate geometries of the swirler. This automated method significantly reduced labor while maintaining edge definition and dimensional accuracy. For final refinement or surface prep, dry blasting and wet grinding options were also integrated as needed.
