Portable ultrafiltration processes wastewater in batches from a tank or drum. The liquid is pumped through the U/F unit and returned to the process vessel in a recirculating loop. As water passes through the membranes, suspended contaminants, emulsified oils, and other retained materials become progressively more concentrated in the remaining liquid.

Once the batch reaches its target concentration or no longer produces useful permeate, the concentrated waste is transferred to a drum, tank, or other appropriate disposal method. The process tank can then be refilled for the next batch.
