The media used in an oblique tumbler depends on the required finish and process objective. Ceramic and plastic media are commonly used for deburring, edge smoothing, and surface preparation. Porcelain, stainless steel, or other burnishing media may be used for brightening, polishing, and burnishing applications.
For dry finishing, corn cob and walnut shell media may be used for drying, cleaning, oil removal, brightening, and final polishing. These organic media can be supplied untreated or used with compatible treatment additives or polishing compounds, depending on the process.
Media selection depends on the part material and geometry, desired finish, risk of media lodging, load ratio, and required cycle time. Bel Air can help evaluate these factors and recommend the appropriate media, compounds, and machine settings for your application.
