Automatic sludge discharge in Automated Continuous Series centrifuges is controlled by a timer. During the discharge cycle, dirty liquid is held in the dirty-fluid tank while the feed pump stops and the rotor slows. Excess process fluid returns to the dirty-fluid tank through rotor-wall valves.

After a short dry-spin cycle, a high-torque scraping mechanism removes accumulated sludge from the rotor wall and drops it into a collection container. The rotor is rinsed, returns to normal operating speed, and the cleaning cycle resumes.
