Objective
Bel Air Finishing was tasked with developing a surface preparation process for SLA-printed electronic rings made from BASF 3280 ceramic-filled resin. The goal was to create a smooth, plating-ready surface suitable for 24kt gold electrocoating, without damaging fine part features or introducing surface distortion.

Solution
To prepare the SLA-printed ceramic-filled resin rings for gold electroplating, Bel Air used a multi-step post-processing approach designed to clean, smooth, and condition the part surface for uniform metal adhesion. The selected process removed build lines and minor imperfections from the BASF 3280 material while maintaining dimensional accuracy and protecting intricate features. This ensured a surface finish capable of supporting consistent 24kt gold electrocoating without blistering or peeling. Bel Air’s post-processing solution provides a repeatable workflow for SLA-printed parts intended for decorative or functional metal finishing in electronics and other consumer applications.
