Objective
This project focused on evaluating and developing polishing processes for SLA-printed resin parts to achieve a smooth, clear, high-gloss surface suitable for consumer-facing applications. The goal was to reduce visible layer lines and surface texture while maintaining the part’s original shape and fine details across multiple resin colors and visual effects.
| Industry | 3D Post-Processing – Plastic, Consumer Goods |
| Part Description | Eggs |
| 3D Printing Technology | SLA |
| Material | PolyJet Resin |
| Process Technology | Smooth & Polish Surface |
| Equipment Type | High Energy Centrifugal Disc Finisher |
Solution
Bel Air developed a multi-stage polishing process using a high-energy centrifugal disc finisher to transform SLA-printed PolyJet resin eggs from a rough, ground surface to a smooth, cosmetic finish. The workflow refined surface texture and layer lines, producing transparent, high-gloss results while maintaining the part’s original shape and visual details.
The process was evaluated across multiple resin colors and visual effects to confirm consistent cosmetic results suitable for consumer-facing applications. This controlled disc-finishing approach demonstrates how 3D-printed plastic parts can achieve repeatable, polished aesthetics without manual finishing, making it well suited for prototyping and short-run production.
If you are unsure what equipment and media you require to achieve your desired surface finish, send us your part, and we will evaluate it and provide you with a detailed metrology report.
