Objective
An experiential marketing and architectural model manufacturer in the Detroit, MI region tasked Bel Air with developing a process to produce an even cosmetic matte finish on Mimaki-printed acrylic architectural models.
| Industry | 3D Post-Processing – Plastic Service Provider |
| Part Description | Architectural Models |
| Material | Ink Jet Acrylic |
| 3D Printer Technology | Poly Jet, Mimaki |
| Process Type | Smooth, Cosmetic Surface |
| Equipment Type | Industrial 3D Print Smoother, High-Energy Centrifugal Disc Finisher, Multiple Technologies |
Solution
Bel Air evaluated multiple post-processing methods to develop a consistent cosmetic matte finish for Mimaki-printed acrylic architectural models.
The printed parts required a smoother, more uniform surface appearance while maintaining part geometry and fine details. Using the Industrial 3D Print Smoother and centrifugal disc finishing technologies, Bel Air developed a process capable of refining the surface finish across a range of printed acrylic geometries.
The result is a repeatable finishing approach that improves surface consistency and produces a clean cosmetic finish suitable for architectural models, display applications, and presentation-quality printed parts.
If you are unsure what equipment and media you require to achieve your desired surface finish, then send us your part, and we will evaluate it and provide you with a metrology report.
