Objective
Bel Air Finishing was tasked with preparing a fire-retardant ABS aerospace flange—3D-printed using SLS technology—for electroplating. As a post-processing service provider, Bel Air was responsible for delivering a smooth, coating-ready surface to meet strict aerospace quality standards and expedite component installation for a commercial airliner.
| Industry | 3D Plastic |
| Part Description | ABS-Electroplated Aerospace Flange |

Solution
Bel Air used a combination of post-processing technologies to smooth the surface of the SLS-printed ABS flange and prepare it for uniform metal plating. The process removed print texture and minor surface inconsistencies while preserving the dimensional accuracy required for aerospace fitment. The final finish supported strong adhesion of the electroplated layer, ensuring a durable, conductive coating on the flame-retardant plastic substrate. This project was completed as a full-service prototype for aerospace deployment, highlighting Bel Air’s ability to deliver plating-ready surfaces on complex 3D-printed polymer components for high-performance, production-scale applications.
